We are early in our 2024 campaign, but I am committed to engaging the voters on the issues, just as I did in 2022.
Women's healthcare is central to my concerns. My opponent has naive, unrealistic and downright dangerous ideas about women's health and a lack of respect for women who have to make difficult decisions. Listen to one doctor's reaction to my opponent's social media post made earlier this spring, 2024. (Note: I am proud of my long association with agriculture and farm familes. My opponent's misguided notions have nothing to do with his profession and everything to do with his arrogance and naivete.)
One issue I highlighted in 2022 is the wasteful state mandate that my opponent voted for --- requiring local government to mail out unnecessary and confusing property tax notices. I would have listened to sensible local leaders instead.
I welcome moderate Republicans who want to see a better future in our district. I am honored to have the support of former Republican State Senator Ruth Teichman of Stafford, who drove me in the Ellinwood After Harvest Festival Parade in 2022.
I am serious about my respect for civic responsiblities and the power of many on both sides of the political spectrum to work for the public good. During my 2022 campaign, the Lyons USD 405 Board of Education invited me to speak at their meeting. Prior to question and answer session, my opening statement mentioned my recollection of Bob Dole’s acceptance speech at the 1996 Republican National Convention in San Diego which I attended as an Alternate Delegate. Both Kent and I were members of the Official Kansas Delegation.
